Japanese Eagle is a mural reminiscent of the time when this area was known as Japantown. Every summer at Oppenheimer Park (a few blocks to the west) there is the annual Japanese themed Powell Street Festival. Last year Vancouverites’ celebrated the festival’s thirty-fifth year anniversary. Incorporating a number of traditional Japanese style elements the mural bears a strong message of hope. The message reads: “Life is not a dagger stained with the blood of hatred. It is filled with the blossoms of love and compassion. Life itself is restless for peace in the world. Let its noble dream materialize.”
